Configuration

Plankton provides a variety of features tailored to your needs. When importing Plankton into your project, only your selected features and associated dependencies are added to keep your game lightweight. You have the flexibility to choose these features.

To enable specific features, you'll be prompted to provide the necessary information.

You can choose the features you are going to use in the Plankton settings. You can find the Plankton settings in Edit > Project Settings > Plankton.

Plankton Settings

The figures below show earlier snapshots of the Plankton settings. In version 3.8.1, Android build-tool options also appear above the generation buttons. Refer to the labels and instructions below for the current workflow.

For iOS

The following sections describe the functionalities of Plankton settings:

Generate Plugins Now

Click this button after changing your selected features or their configuration and before building. Generation uses the active build platform in Unity; displaying the Android or iOS tab in Plankton settings does not switch the build target. Switch platforms first, then generate.

Generated files under Assets/Plugins are replaced when you regenerate.

Prebuild Auto Generate Plugins

If you tick this box you don't need to click “Generate Plugins Now” every time you change your configurations. We do it for you automatically before each build.

Save Preset

This button saves your choices of configuration for Plankton.

Load Preset

This button loads your previously saved configurations for Plankton.

Android build tools

Version 3.8.1 adds optional setup above the generation controls:

  • Use Java 17 for Android builds: finds or downloads JDK 17 when selected, with Locate JDK 17 for manual selection. If Unity already supplies and selects Java 17, the panel shows Java 17 is ready with this Unity editor.
  • Use custom Android Gradle plugin: generates and enables a custom base Gradle template. Selecting an AGP version sets up its matching Gradle and selects it in External Tools. That Gradle preference is shared across Unity projects.

Both options default to off. They are independent of feature selection, and compatible build tools may still be needed when the options are off. Neither option raises your Android API levels or changes SDK, NDK or JDK locations in External Tools. See Android build tools in Getting Started for setup, manual configuration, cancellation and troubleshooting.
